The firm was founded by Gerald Aldridge in 1929, who came from a family of solicitors. Over the years, the firm expanded and merged with other practices, such as that of Alastair Brownlee in 1939. The firm continued to grow, opening new offices and bringing in new partners like Stephen Perry in 1951 and Peter Mellowes in 1962.
By 1989, the firm had organised its Bournemouth offices into specialised departments and had a busy high street practice in Highcliffe. In 1992, the Kingsway House office premises, became the principal offices of the firm. The firm continued to expand, acquiring other practices such as Roger House in Kinson in 1995 and Brian Pickering in New Milton in 1997. In 2008, the firm became a Limited Liability Partnership and changed its name to Aldridge Brownlee Solicitors LLP.
