In the UK, 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This initiative allows you to create or update a basic Will at a reduced rate, with the hope that you may choose to leave a legacy gift in support of the charity's life-saving research.
How does the Will-Writing Service work?
This service is open to individuals aged 18 and above. Even if you already have a Will, you might still benefit from certain updates that are included.
Simple Wills, which contain clear instructions, may be drafted or updated under this program. If your circumstances are more complex, we may still be able to offer you a reduced fee. Feel free to contact us to discuss your specific needs and see if you qualify for this service.
Do I have to include a gift in my Will?
While many individuals who utilise the Wills Service choose to leave a donation to Cancer Research UK, there is no obligation to do so. However, it’s important to note that many people using the service were unaware that Cancer Research UK pay the solicitors fees for writing the will.
If you opt to leave a legacy gift, you can specify how you would like your donation to be utilised, such as designating a location, research facility, or type of cancer. Additionally, you can select the type of gift you wish to leave, including percentage share, a lump sum, life interest trust or specific gifts.
Gift Options Explained
Percentage Share
A percentage share of your estate that is gifted to charity. This is inflation proof. Percentages are based on individual circumstances.
Lump Sum
A fixed amount which could lose its value over time as costs increase. There is an option to index-link it to help the gift retain its value.
Life Interest Trust
A life interest trust is a legal setup in which an individual, known as the life tenant, is granted the privilege to utilise and derive advantages from the assets held within the trust for the duration of their life.
Specific Gift
A particular item, such as a car, jewellery or property.
How can I begin the process?
Get in touch with our Wills solicitors to discuss your requirements, and we will guide you through the next steps. If you qualify for the Assisted Cost Wills Service, you will need to complete the necessary form, and Cancer Research UK may contribute towards the cost of your Will upon its completion.
